Say YES to Being Uncomfortable
It is quite common to feel uncomfortable in new situations with new people. In these moments of discomfort, it is important to discern whether or not you are feeling the good kind of uncomfortable or the bad kind. The "bad kind" is usually determined by some kind of unhealthy or dangerous situation. In this case, it is probably the best decision to either help calm the situation if you are able, or to leave it. The "good kind" of discomfort is actually far from being unhealthy or dangerous. If embraced, this healthy discomfort can be life-changing for you and others.
If you truly desire to follow after Christ and give yourself away for the sake of others, you will be stretched and have to push yourself past what you think you are able to do. If you decide to work through these uncomfortable situations that the Lord puts you in, you will end up surprising yourself in many ways. You will be wowed by your level of stamina, by how much you can do when you're exhausted, and most importantly, by the overwhelming ways that God can work through His servants who have a pure desire to be participate in His healing of others.
Another result of working through these uncomfortable moments is that your views and presuppositions of people will change. Someone that you may have never interacted with because of that discomfort may turn out to be a great blessing to you. You may find great comfort in that interaction instead because you choose to see Christ in that person, instead of letting your own fears and stereotypes get in the way.
So embrace uncomfortable situations that give you the opportunity to recognize your own weakness and that you can do nothing without Christ. Real Gospel living is simple, but not easy. In His ministry, the Lord continuously took the unlikely and worked miracles through them. Allow Him to use you as well.
